During the the latter half of the 19th century, ready made shirts came in a single (extra long) sleeve length. Sleeve garters allowed men to customize sleeve lengths, and keep their clothing from becoming soiled while working.

With modern shirt sizing, our garters are for style rather than function. This style available in red only, but other styles can be seen here.
