Planning to apply for statehood, and fed up with outlaws and rustlers, the Arizona Territorial Governor chartered the Rangers in 1901. The rangers distinguished themselves and by 1909, had achieved their goals and were disbanded, then rechartered in the late 1950's to serve as a volunteer auxilary to support Arizona law enforcement.
