Wallace Higginbotham, Cattle Baron
At the tender age of 19, Wallace got swept up in the 1849 Gold Rush and led a party of Forty-Niners overland to California. Several years of lackluster results from his gold mine convinced him that opening a dry goods store would be more lucrative, and within three years he had branched into real estate and cattle, amassing over 100,000 acres of prime acreage.
Though he prefers not to discuss the details of his land acquisition strategy, "business is just business," he'd say, it is widely rumored that not all of his transactions were within the strict letter of the law.
Leaving behind the hand-me-downs of his youth, Wallace's wardrobe commands respect and admiration.
