Beautiful coat...great fit and feel

I like it a lot. It fits great, even over a sport coat. I wore it to the last meeting of the Sherlock Holmes Society. I have a couple of minor complaints, however. First, there should be some way of fixing the cape together at the front. I wore the coat in windy conditions, and the cape kept blowing over my head like a hood. I felt like the Grim Reaper. Even in a mild wind the cape is unstable. Secondly, the cotton lining of the sleeves offers a lot of resistance when you put your arm through the sleeves. You really have to push, and the cuffs of your shirtsleeves wind up half way up your forearm where they are tight and uncomfortable. Sleeves should be lined with rayon or something offering less friction. Third, I don't like the fabric-covered buttons. They don't push through the button holes as easily as buttons made of other materials, and I can see that they are going to fall off at some point.

This is truly...a "great coat." I am very impressed with the quality of this coat. It does run on the large side so I would order the next size down from your normal coat size. Also, it is wool...so it is somewhat heavy, but very stylish and will work perfectly for the use I have planned for mine in a new show I'm putting together. Highly recommended...

Style, fit, and finish of this coat are all excellent. My minor quibbles are as follows:
- I found, as did others, that the pockets were somewhat under-sized. My size medium hands barely fit in them.
- The wool could be a tad thicker. If it was, this would make a rather good daily wear Fall/Winter coat.
- The buttons could be a might more robust. They are of rather light construction.
All-in-all it's an excellent coat though.

This coat, while being wonderfully warm, is light enough to wear over a suit without adding uncomfortable weight! The only possible future issue might be the fabric covering the buttons wearing off from repeated use. Easily repaired, though! I share this because I plan on getting much use from this coat! Too bad there isn't an increase in men dressing like gentlemen!

This coat was purchased for San Jose Youth Shakespeare's production of A Christmas Carol. The smallest size was a size too large for the young man playing Fred. We ordered it anyway figuring that the cape would hide it. We removed the small belt in the back (it hit him totally wrong) and the coat was perfect.

I love this coat. Its price competes with any 21st Century coat like it you can buy. It is warmer and more comfortable than any coat I have ever owned. The only complaint is that the pockets are a little small for holding gloves.

Coat is very nice, and confortable. Its very thin, but at -2°C is still prety warm, so maby not for winter (here is winter -15°C to -30°C) but for autumn and spring very good coat.
Only cons on the coat are 1. no hanging loop 2. pockets should be a bit wider (ca. 1'').
Otherwise is coat fantastic and Im very happy to wear it :)

I ordered this cutaway coat in Charcoal because they did not have my size (50) in Black. When the coat arrived, I tried it on and found that the coat was too large. I sent it back and exchanged it for a 48, and this time in black since they had that in stock. It arrived today and am happy to say that the fit is wonderful.

Ordering clothing online can be quite "hit or miss" as to fit. This coat fit perfectly - chest size 46.
Wearing the coat for a week+ now has definitely turned heads and garnered many positive comments. Dapper is the most prevalent, followed by "quite a statement."
All recognize the era the coat represents, though they may not be able to verbalize it. Several people have nailed the look to TOMBSTONE. (Kurt Russell 1993).
Having experienced a perfect fit in this beautiful coat, I am seriously considering purchasing the Rifle Coat in the near future. Indeed, quite a fashion statement.

Nice fabric, great style
I loved this coat when I first saw it on HE modeled with some trousers I was interested in.
While I tend only to purchase natural fiber fabrics, I was very pleased with the look and feel of this blend! I was especially happy that it is a lighter/medium weight fabric than it may appear in the photos. But it's not an inexpensive feeling lightness -- it has a very nice hand. I already have long coats for cold weather wearing here in the PNW, so this one is absolutely perfect for spring, and even summer and fall. I'll be wearing it a lot!
This coat is nicely constructed, and will likely hold up for my lifetime.
The only negative is the plastic buttons. For me, they detract from the otherwise elegant look of this coat, but the price point for such a fine garment was very reasonable. I did replace them with some nice leather buttons, which likely would have added a lot to the shipped price, but make a big difference in the overall effect.

I really like the Emerson Frock Coat. I usually stick to 100% cotton or wool, but this coat is a very nice blend. The material is soft and comfortable and it has the weight of an average sports coat. It seems to be the same material as the tweed Inverness coat. The flap pockets on the front are functional, not just for show. The detailing is solid. All around, this is a nice, well made Frock coat. I am delighted to have added it to my collection.

Coat is well made, fits properly and looks great on. The only negative I might offer is that the nap of the lapel doesn’t seem to lie flat. It may be tailored incorrectly but it might just need a good pressing. I haven’t had a chance to sort it out yet. At any rate good value for the money spent.

The Emerson Frock Coat is very well put-together. It's a little heavier than I was expecting. Not too much so but, with a cardigan, would make for a quite reasonable Fall weight overcoat. The inner pocket is a bit higher than one might expect, but not at all difficult to access. Just an adjustment going from my Coburn to this (plus left/right transition). Very happy with the build quality, fit, and finish.

I was worried that the (small size) bad boy wasn't going to fit, seeing as how I am a 5'4" teenage girl. HOWEVER! It went to just about my ankles/wrists, which is SPECTACULAR. The adjustment strap on the back was a huge plus, too. The fabric is thick, heavy, and comfortable and the buttons and collar are sturdy. It even flows in the wind in the right conditions!
It's perfect for contemplating the complexities of human consciousness in. It's perfect for lamenting and plotting your revenge against the scientific community that ostracized you for your questionable morals in. Bottom line: it's perfect.
As one (1) mad scientist obsessed individual, I can confirm this lab coat is absolutely a new favorite comfort item!!!!!!
On a side note, it arrived in 4 days rather than the expected 12, which I could not be happier about! Excellent service, excellent item.... Excellent... Magnificent.... All according to plan....!

Definitely Measure Yourself Instead of Assuming! I'm a shorter, curvier person who likes a bit of wiggle room in my clothes. I've been wanting this for ages, and when I finally got it I ordered the wrong size not once, but twice! Why? Because I'm used to always getting a 3x/4x , and then the 3x was too big, so I went to med/large, which was just a barely too small to close! And finally, I got the perfect size (XL/2X), which fits PERFECTLY. I can now live my stylish mad scientist dreams, and look absolutely amazing doing so. This labcoat looks nice on the body, making a great silhouette, and makes the user -- or me, in this case -- feel confident. It's amazing quality, too!

The quality of the coat is well worth the money payed for it. It's made from good material and you can tell this isn't some crappy costume you would buy at a store. I bought a size small and thought that even then it might be a bit too big for me but it fit great, although a little long (seeing as I'm only 5'4"/female) it's not an issue. If you are looking for something like this I definitely recommend buying it from this seller, you wont be disappointed and will most likely be buying something that will last a long time and make many awesome memories no matter what occasions you dress up to.

This is a fabulous item. This is the second version of this coat I have purchased. This is for a plague doctor. I also own a white version to be a mad (well, slightly peeved) scientist. Both fit wonderfully and are comfortable to wear for an extended time. The only negative is the buttons can be a little difficult to work sometimes due to placement. It is a great purchase that will last many years (my white coat is around 5 years old and in near-perfect shape).

Do not confuse this with halloween costume crap - it will stand up to close scrutiny - all the buttons are working buttons. It is stage quality.
Bought this for an Uncle Fester halloween costume for 2 reasons: it appeared to be well-made and it wasn't a monks robe (which every other dealer tried to pass off as Fester's coat). Alright, this wasn't going to be Fester's coat either, but it looked much closer than anything else I could find.
It was perfect! I ordered a XXXL because I wanted to stuff a pillow under it and the fit was still a little loose - at 5' 10" the length was all the way to the floor without tripping over it. Add some makeup and a trick light bulb and, poof - Uncle Fester! Helps to start out with a bald head because skull caps are a pita.
I also bought a pair of German made welder goggles with 3 different pairs of lens shades - only ones I could find that actually had metal rims, everything in the steam punk world was plastic. Take off the makeup, add the goggles and some wild hair (or not) and let the mad loose. The coat is made from a good cloth and stitched well so it should last for years, unless you really are a scientist, mad or otherwise, and expect to use it daily.
I could see using this for a Mortician as well as the Uncle Fester and Mad Scientist costumes. I just ask myself, "What would Christopher Lloyd do with this coat?"

Really, no joke. It is almost too big which for me is a pleasant surprise, I ordered a size larger out of habit expecting to have to send it back for being too short, or not being able to put my arms through the sleeves, instead a well made and accurate sized garment arrived in record time. I am quite pleased.

Love this Lab Coat
I am a MS chemistry student in California and was looking to replace my cheap white lean coat for something more aligned with my personality. I wear this while teaching a general chemistry lab class for non-science undergraduate students. I have gotten a lot of really positive responses from colleagues and my students.
The fitting is nice and the quality of the material is worth the price. I only wish that it had small slits in the sides at waist level so I could get into my pockets without having to flap open the front.

This is a nice coat. Although I bought a small I have to take it to a tailor to have it altered. I am 5'7", 150# and to sleeves are about 4" too long and the bottom hem touches the top of my shoes. Other than that it was much heavier than I expected.

I go to a lot of opera and symphony concerts, at least I did before COVID. It is a fine garment, but you will get a few looks and maybe some comments. I'm okay with that. The quality is good, even if the garment is not as heavy as some fine coats - especially the lining is a bit thin. That is a function of the price, which is inexpensive for this kind of coat. It is okay for three seasons (in Calgary Canada) and I've actually got the herringbone version for colder weather. The fit is great for me - xl-2x for me at 6'2" and 250 lbs. - I can wear it with a waistcoat or with a full dress coat. I love dressing in Victorian style - if you are okay with being noticed, this is the coat for you!

I'm a little leery of ordering clothing online. I'm a big guy and have trouble getting things to fit, especially outerwear. I've wanted a long coat for a long time, but could never find one in my size. When I ordered the Inverness coat, my main thought was "Please let it fit"
When I opened the box and examined the coat, I was impressed with the quality of the materials and construction, this is garment that could last a lifetime.
Then I tried it on. Not only did it fit, but it was roomy enough to wear a full suit underneath, as I imagine a gentleman of the time would do.
I am 100% satisfied with this item and would gladly recommend it to anyone.

This coat is world-class. It is so elegant. The one problem I had was the lining. Right out of the box it ripped, and I had to sew it. However, my impression is that the coat is stunning. One word of advice, order a size smaller than you normally wear, it is big!

A hit on the first night
I wore this coat to Phantom of the Opera in New York, and it fit perfectly with the venue and the event (it's the oldest show on Broadway...dress up). The quality has inspired me to purchase from Historical Emporium again.

If you have to venture out in inclement weather for a formal event in a suit this is the coat for you. It splendidly covers even a tuxedo with tails and does so with a touch of old world genteel fashion without sacrificing serviceability. One recommendation I do make is that you get this garment rainproofed by your local dry cleaner.

I am a priest and I sometimes wear a cassock, usually on formal and semi-formal occasions. Rarely do overcoats look good with a cassock - in either length or style of cut. The Inverness Dress Coat is the answer! I'm shorter than the model, so the coat nearly covers the cassock. Also the style better melds with the cassock, especially with the cape. This is true of ecclesiastical head wear as well. The Inverness Dress Coat even makes a Canterbury Cap look good.
After taking my measurements I submitted them with a question through the website. The response was quick and reliable. I bought the coat knowing the sleeves would have to be hemmed. Otherwise the fit around the chest and shoulders is perfect.
The construction of the coat appears to be excellent. The only negative is that the lining for the pockets feels very thin. Not a place to store keys. Overall, though, I'm extremely pleased.

Wonderful Comfortable Coat
I just wanted to put together a distinctive semi dressy outfit to wear out with friends and family for nice events, so this coat suits my needs perfectly. It's classic, handsome, masculine, very well made and very comfortable. I am going to alter it slightly by having a black satin detailed handkerchief pocket added to the left chest area, and I'll also consider adding a matching pair of black satin trimmed pockets just below the high waist seem. I like the functionality and look of these pockets. The size 46 is what I measured for and is what I ordered, and it fits me perfectly.

Bought the Callahan frock coat to use during Museum tours of which I am a docent. Received many compliments on my outfit, all of which comes from Historical Emporium. I portrayed a Victorian undertaker for the Halloween season and was told I looked like I fell out of a history book.
Couldn't have felt prouder. Heavy weight coat which should keep you fairly warm when the cooler fall weather sets in. I'm happy with the color as it is a rich black and not charcoal. Material is a bit coarse but not a problem. Fit is true to size ordered. Happy with my purchase.

This coat is absolutely awesome, classy and gives a dark touch to my Gothic-Victorian look.
It is very comfortable, made of a quality fabric and can be worn for any occasion a gentleman needs to show up.
I highly recommend it.
Only downside: The sizes sometimes require adjustments depending on your size. This was my case for the length of the sleeves.

Stylish and intimidating
I wanted this coat to pair with other items of my costume. It's of a high quality and the sizing is pretty much dead on! I will say it would be nice if the coat was a little tailored in the waist region, but this is not a criticism worth paying ant note of. I am 6'4, so pay attention to the long sizes as they are definitely the right choice for us giants.
